Challah Braiding 101

Challah is my jam, I make it every week, sometimes multiple loaves but I have the most fun when I get to be creative with the braid. I will do a round up of fun challahs, but this is a round up of videos of some more basic braids, let me know which one is your favorite in the comments below!

Obviously the three strand is rather self explanatory and just like any other three strand braid so we will start with the 4 strand. This is the one that I use the most and my go to for weekly braiding.

Next, the five strand which I think is the most difficult of the ones I am sharing today, but it does have a cool pyramid shape.

Third, the 6 strand which is always a beautiful option for traditional dinners, simchas or other times when you have company over. I love this one and the secret here is that no matter how many strands (as long as it is an even number so 8, 10, 12 etc.) the technique is the same.

This is the round braid which is used during the High Holidays from Rosh Hashanah through Sukkot, however, it is also super usefully in many themed challot as well!

Alright, that is a good start and probably overwhelming enough for one day, once you have these mastered it is easy to start playing with themed and stuffed challah!
